Further Information:

Source: Pocket Companion for Young Ladies and Gentlemen
Authority: W. Smyth
Year: 1830
Step: Fleuret
Tune: Corn Rigs
Notes: There are many variations of this dance, including duple minor versions. This tune was published many times over the 18th century but the figures attached to it here are of uncertain provenance. They were published in approximately the form given here in 1830 in W. Smyth's 'Pocket Companion for Young Ladies and Gentlemen', they may be older however. Various figures for the tune are offered in Thomas Wilson's 1816 Companion to the Ballroom, none of which match this arrangement.

This dance is reconstructed from an authentic source as noted above, but you might encounter it being taught in a different fashion. Popular dances were often published more than once, sometimes with different figures, or even with different tunes; our version is faithfully reconstructed and historically informed, but alternative arrangements can be equally satisfying
